Hello, I’m Yuri Yabi Blaak, a filmmaker based in Amsterdam.

Shortly after I was born my grandfather bought a Sony Video 8 Camcorder, to capture the life of his first grandson. Looking back at it all there years later, I realize that was my first introduction into the world of moving pictures. It was through that camera that I first looked though the viewfinder and tasted my love for cinematography.

Fast forward a couple of decades, I don’t use that old camcorder, but the medium of video is still my trusted companion to tell stories and communicate with the world. These days, my passion lies in the world of filmmaking, particularly in the realm of documentaries. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of weaving together compelling narratives about people that dedicate their lives to something they are passionate about.

As a freelancer, I wear many hats, and I’m involved in numerous roles such as: brand consultation, concepting, video production and post-production. I’m a problem solver, carefully combining my experience with my creativity, resulting in well formulated solutions of all sizes.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with a list of high-end clients such as: Tommy Hilfiger, Desperados, Amsterdam Dance Event, EMI Records, Stones Throw Records, ID&T, VPRO, House of Blues and many more
