Brief & The Challenge

War Child

War Child supports children affected by conflict with psychosocial care and protection programmes. For a national fundraising broadcast in the Netherlands (“Geef me de vrijheid” on SBS6), War Child needed documentary footage from the field that honestly portrayed both the challenges and the resilience of children in the Nakivale refugee settlement in Uganda.

The challenge was to capture these highly sensitive stories with deep care, safety, and an ethical approach, showing how safety, play, and guidance contribute to recovery without amplifying suffering.

Our Solution & Role

Story To Video acted as the field production partner and documentary crew on location in Uganda. We filmed with a small, agile crew to safeguard safety, calm, and trust.

By letting the kids perspective’s lead, we treated their stories with care and respect. Programmes like TeamUp and BeThere were captured exactly as they take place, allowing play, movement, and togetherness to speak for themselves without staging or directing.

The Impact

The footage was broadcast nationally as part of War Child’s fundraising programme “Give Me Freedom,” reaching a wide national audience and contributing to a highly successful fundraising campaign.

Beyond fundraising, the material strengthened War Child’s long-term communication by making the true value of psychosocial support visible through real moments and real voices. The heart of the project followed four children aged 9 to 12, sharing their lives before and after conflict, highlighting their powerful inner strength and resilience.
